Semenuk is the 2011 FMB World Tour Champion

Munich, August 8th, 2011 – Earlier than expected, Brandon Semenuk (CAN) is crowned the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour Champion 2011! With a point lead that is now officially impossible to beat, Brandon Semenuk does not have to fear the competition any more after his victory at last weekend’s Bearclaw Invitational. Brandon Semenuk will take home the unique trophy of the FMB World Tour after the prize giving ceremony at the Red Bull District Ride on September 10th: The golden CamelBak Better Bottle. Congratulations Brandon!

Up until the results were in after the Bearclaw Invitational, there was still a chance that one of the contenders could beat Semenuk with their results from the Bearclaw Invitational and the Red Bull District Ride. However, after a truly amazing season, nobody could compete against a rider that reliably delivered top results at every event in which he competed. And what’s more, Semenuk has the chance to get a perfect season: if he should win the Red Bull District Ride in Nuremberg, every one of his five results that count towards the FMB World Tour ranking will be a first place. He is going down in history as the first rider of the FMB World Tour to ever accomplish this feat, in a Tour that is merely in its second year.

Semenuk At The Claymore Challenge

Nevertheless, the battle for places 2-10 remains exciting, since the points won at the Red Bull District Ride as a Diamond event can still shake up the ranking entirely. Last year’s FMB World Tour Champion Cameron Zink (USA) is currently in second place and will do all he can to keep it that way. Sam Pilgrim (GBR), the only European in the current top 3 will definitely put up a good fight to improve his position; after all, he was in first place long enough throughout the season to taste victory. At an event such as the Red Bull District Ride anything is possible and the world’s best riders will give all they have at this final event of the 2011 FMB World Tour season. Even if the top of the podium is already reserved for http://www.fmbworldtour.com/”>Brandon Semenuk, it is still unpredictable who will join him.

The 4th Annual Claymore Challenge is in the record books, finally! After days of rain delays the riders and event promoter were not sure if the show would go on! But the combination of the dedication from the Highland Crew and with the motivation of the riders- it was pulled off and a winner was crowned! Brandon Semenuk took top honors for the 3rd year in a row, but it was the comeback of veteran Freerider Kyle Strait that took everyone by surprise- Kyle not only walked away with 3rd place, but also was awarded the Best Trick award as well as wild card spots to both Red Bull Joyride and Red Bull District Ride!

Five wild cards for Red Bull District Ride 2011

Invitation procedure announced • top ten riders from FMB World Tour ranking 2010 and 2011 are set • 5 additional spots to be conquered during the ongoing season

Munich, March 29, 2011 – The secret is out: today, the organizing committee made the final decision which riders will be allowed on course at the legendary Red Bull District Ride. The very elite of the freeride scene is expected in Nuremberg; apart from the 20 currently best riders in the world, athletes who did not make it to the top of the world ranking last year also get a chance. They can qualify with one of the wild cards at five selected events of the current season for the Red Bull District Ride.

Of course, a contest of such distinction as the Red Bull District Ride tickles the ambition of many athletes to be one of the lucky few taking part in the most legendary of all freeride events. Tarek Rasouli, vice president of the Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMBA) knows: “Any rider with the faintest spark of ambition dreams of starting from the “Kaiserburg” castle into the challenging course. Obviously, at such a world class contest only the scene’s very best will make it onto the starting tower at the Red Bull District Ride.” The only riders who have so far proven to be worthy are the top ten of the 2010 FMB World Tour ranking; they will soon find an invitation in their mailbox. Riders who did not make it into this pre-selection with last year’s ranking should put their back into it and secure a starting spot by making it into the top ten of the 2011 FMB World Tour ranking. These riders will receive their invitation in August, after the penultimate event of the World Tour. Following riders area already set (FMB World Tour Ranking 2010): Cameron Zink (USA), Brandon Semenuk (CAN), Darren Berrecloth (CAN), Yannick Granieri (FRA), Martin Söderström (SWE), Sam Pilgrim (GBR), Greg Watts (USA), Cameron McCaul (USA), Casey Groves (CAN), Amir Kabbani (GER).

Athletes who want nothing more than to be part of the Red Bull District Ride and cannot wait until August should try their utmost to qualify for a wild card by winning at one of the five selected events during the ongoing season. Should the winner already be invited thanks to his top ten ranking in the FMB World Tour 2010, the wild card goes to the best rider at the event who has not yet been invited to Nuremberg.

One wild card for the Red Bull District Ride 2011 can be won at the following contests respectively:

April 2nd to 3rd: Vienna Air King (AUT)
June 2nd to 5th: SKS Slopestyle at iXS Dirtmasters in Winterberg (GER)
June 25th: Claymore Challenge at Highland Mountain (USA)
July 1st to 3rd: Chatel Mountain Style (FRA)

So far, more than half the rider’s list still needs to be filled and it will definitely be an exciting competition for the remaining 15 spots.

(Northfield, NH) – Highland Mountain is proud to announce that registration for the 3rd Annual Claymore Challenge is now open. Set to take place on July 14-17th, the Claymore Challenge is arguably the favorite event of the year, marrying the thrill of downhill and slopestyle with the love of music. Top professional freeriders from all over the world will descend on Highland’s coveted Claymore Challenge course.

Claymore Challenge is coming from Highland Mountain Bike Park on Vimeo.

Vancouver native and Jamis/Rock Star pro freerider, Jordie Lunn explains, “The Claymore Challenge is a great event! The Highland team has built a world-class course on an amazing mountain. This event is a must stop for all the pros.”

The signature Claymore course is like no other course in the US, with a course built and designed by Pro Freerider Dave Smutok. Smutok’s creativity and desire to push the limits shows in the course construction. “Each year I get more psyched on the course, this year we re-worked my least favorite section of the course and now it’s my favorite section. We changed one feature and then added two dirt dishes back to back, I think it really adds to the flow and I can’t wait to see what goes down on them,” explains Smutok.

If you’re not up to taking on the pros in slopestyle not to worry the event is completely FREE to spectators, take a seat in Highland’s “Backyard” kick back in the beer garden, grab a burger and watch the madness go down. Tradition is the word at Highland. The winner of the Claymore is traditionally “knighted” by owner, Mark Hayes, then thrown into Highland’s infamous beaver pond by his fellow competitors. Hayes explains, “The Claymore Challenge was created to showcase the raw talent of today’s bike athlete. We blended an intense competition with a chill festival vibe to get more people hooked. It truly is an honor to hand over the Claymore sword to the world’s most talented rider.”
